Two-way audio: talk through the camera
Someone at the door, a pet on the sofa, a parent in the next room: hold Talk on the computer and the camera phone says it out loud. The phone shows who is talking while it plays.
- 48kHzOpus, mono
- 20msAudio packets
- 2sOf silence ends a talk
- Android 10Or newer, on the camera phone
How to talk
On the desktop app’s Camera page, or on a camera in full screen or a pop-out on the wall:
- Choose the microphone to talk with and check its level.
- Hold to talk, or click once to keep talking until you click again.
- Let go. The talk ends on release, after 2 seconds without audio, or when the phone disconnects.
On the phone
- It plays your voice from its loudspeaker at the Talkback volume set in Settings → Audio, which you can also change from the computer.
- It shows “studio-pc is talking” (your computer’s name) on the camera screen and in its notification, or “Someone is talking”.
- It turns on echo cancellation while it plays, so your own voice doesn’t come back through its microphone.
One person talks at a time. Talk audio is Opus, mono, 48 kHz, in 20 ms packets, sent over your network only.
Requirements
- The camera phone needs Android 10 or newer and Camlane 0.2 or newer. Older phones and versions say so on the computer instead of failing silently.
- Talking comes from the desktop app (and
camlane-cli listenwithtalk N). Talking from another phone arrives with Watch on Android, which is in progress.
Talking isn’t recording: talk audio isn’t stored, and the recorder never records sound.
Guides
